Bank robberies, homicides, police chases — these are just a small sampling of what Shotty Horroh has been up to since leaving his Sony Music deal in search of artistic freedom. His latest project TELLER is a stark reminder to fans and critics alike that when this Mancunian spitter escapes his cage, there’s hell to pay.

The project follows a bank teller with a gambling debt and a brother-in-law with a plan to capitalize in every way possible. Shotty spends the project convincingly voicing all of the different characters while triple-timing and slow-flowing his way through the drama as it unfolds. If you spend any amount of time with crime podcasts like Serial, this 20-minute audio film will be a masterpiece that ranks at the top of your Repeat lists.

Without giving too much away, his Tarantino approach of shifting back and forth in time, bridging different character perspectives and crafting a narrative so vivid that you can hear the blood splatter on the pillows is a feat that few could achieve. In the past, Shotty has had outside input into his craft (Deadmau5, Jay-Z, Ty Dolla etc.), so the results of a completely independent project are welcomed as we get lost inside the brain of a mad man from Manchester.

For full impact, the project requires the listener to pay attention for more than 5-seconds but with Horroh taking the reins as producer for the first time, there is loads of stimulus to keep you thirsting for the next couplet to move the story along. Without a clear radio cut to latch onto, this isn’t going to hit Rap Caviar anytime soon but that is perfectly fine as the fans who discover it will spread it with the strongest co-sign of all — word of mouth.

For those less familiar with the name, Shotty led the British battle rap scene to prominence with one of the most viewed battles of all time - +13M and counting - and was heavily courted by the major labels after moving to North America. All told, his travels have exposed the brilliant artist to the peaks and depths of humanity, with projects like TELLER distilling those experiences into haunting nightmares we won’t soon forget. The much anticipated Xombie Xoo is scheduled to follow this project later in 2021.
