Six Detroit Rap Songs To Bet On

Listen to new 313 heat from 6aamm, Young Roc, Otti, Oba Rowland, Reg2g, Allstar JR, Kid Vishis, and more.

While Detroit might not get the love nationally other big markets get, the 313 is consistently bringing a lot to the table on the rap front, having offered numerous styles for decades. In order to help share the wealth, I’ve highlighted five notable tracks from Motor City MCs not named Big Sean and Eminem, who seem to be making waves just fine on their own.

6aamm — “Breakfast”

Skip the most important meal of the day this morning? Don’t worry, 6aamm has you covered with “Breakfast.” The latest offering from the man responsible for Comedy Central’s Detroiters theme song feels almost sedated, offering confident lyrics with a low key, sensual delivery. But, that’s fitting. This is basically the theme song for the morning after you’ve exhausted your self until 6am in the bedroom. Listen to 6’s 6ood Morning EP here.

Oba Rowland x Reg2g — “No Way” Video

Oba Rowland has a knack for making hit records, whether they pop off or not. His new most catchy record ever is “No Way,” a joint single with Reg2G. Press play on this speaker slapper and watch Oba + Reg turn up the Speedway on Jefferson and 75 with their tough as nails collabo, offering the epitome of Detroit’s rap sound.

Young Roc Feat. Nassan — “Gone Til November” (Prod. By Greedy Money & Tats N Tunes)

While Young Roc actually has a newer single produced by the soon-to-be-superstar Awkwafina, I couldn’t help but highlight his recently-released “Gone Til November” track. With a slick sixteen from Proof’s son Nasaan, the song offers loosened up vibes that feel casual and confident. The record is cool, without trying to be cool. Not easy to do.

Kid Vishis Feat. Royce Da 5'9" — “Go Off” (Prod. By Fowl Mouth)

If you’ve seen Kid Vishis in person lately, the last thing you want him to do is “Go Off.” Dude is cut like a WWE superstar. Still, listen to this new single with his big brother Royce and you’ll see Vishis is extra tough, strictly through the microphone. From the bars to the energy, the Kid appears to have grown into his own. If you haven’t heard KV’s The Purge album, listen here.

AllStar JR — “I Might” Video

There’s levels to AllStar JR”s new “I Might” single. Watch this almost eerie visual for JR’s new single and you’ll see the Detroiter drop his patented no-nonsense street raps atop three different versions of the same menacing beat — altered his approach along each stop. Dope concept and dope delivery. Plus, a fitting video from my dude JewDoesit, too.

OTTI — “Asshole”

We’ve been watching Otti grow for years now and on “Asshole,” the versatile 313 native seems to be in his comfort zone. Produced by JUSTIZE from Taylor Gang, this downtempo banger is a borderline R&B record, coming from a guy who’s sick of hearing his girl’s bullshit and stays 100 in telling her how he feels. Hey, we’ve all been there, right?
