HBK & Payroll — “Black & Platinums”

Cash isn’t even accepted most places HBK & Payroll shop lately, so “Black & Platinums” are a must, especially with fall at hand and Michigan winter around the corner. I can see it now — hustlers throughout metro Detroit pulling up to the old side of Somerset for their cold weather ‘fits, bumping this slapper from the DBCO heavy hitters, ready to make someone’s quota for the month in one day. The full Kid & Pay album from this storied duo drops Friday, so plan your pay day accordingly.

Mibbs — “Me & The Weed”

There’s a lot to like about “Me & The Weed” from Mibbs. Watch as the always-elevated Pac Div member offers a lyrical exercise atop two different banging beats, all while delivering one of the slickest visuals you’ll see all week. Dude is a pro, no doubt. Now, let me go find my lighter.

Gabe ‘Nandez — “Cortado”

When I hear a “Cortado” from Gabe ‘Nandez, I imagine a modern Rip Van Winkle falling asleep tree-side with earpods on, rocking this hazy record on repeat. Blessed with bottomless bass and a soulful soup of chopped-up melody from chef Argov, Gabe’s glowing when flowing about a singular love that manages to be boundless and the result will leave listeners lost in the listen. Gabe’s subdued slickness is heavy on this quick record and thick throughout his full new H.T.III album, which you can stream in full here.

Lord Sko — “James Worthy Goggles”

One of the youngest in charge in NYC right now is Lord Sko. Put on “James Worthy Goggles” and you’ll see the hype surrounding this Washington Heights spitter, who’s clearly an old soul at heart and not afraid to handle his business. Dude flows like Kyrie handles and his evergreen bars make this extremely raw record feel like it could’ve dropped anytime over the last thirty years. Sko’s highly-anticipated United Palace LP drops Sept 29.

honey — “Brown Eyes”

There are a lot of great songs about “Brown Eyes” and now honey has entered the conversation with an exclamation point. Built on a combo of crystalized chords and punchy synth bass, this silky smooth funk nugget struts from one note to the next, turning heads and shaking rumps along the way. Oh, honey.

HENNESSY — “Forever & A Day”

Ahhhhh. The satisfying, deep release breaths take themselves when “Forever & A Day” plays. This whimsical, dreamy new single from HENNESSY is an easy win whenever the wind’s blowing the wrong way, offering an immediate hit of welcoming warmth that may or may not be the missing piece to your mood.

PROF — “Tombstones”

After years of friends pushing PROF on me, the Rhymesayers MC finally made my list of must-listen rappers. Beyond having more personality than Dr. Jekyll and a Tim Wakefield-esque delivery that always leaves listeners wondering what‘s next, this Minnesota north star also has the ability to deliver gut-punching reality checks like “Tombstones.” The delicate and somber record carries itself like a tumbleweed, blowing aimlessly as the surrounding world falls apart. If you can’t relate, you will. Hear this high-end record + more via PROF’s recently-released HORSE album. Stream now.

C Plus — “Longway To Go”

The sooner you realize success doesn’t come overnight, the more time you have to start properly planning your marathon moves. After all, anything worthwhile takes time and every inch adds up. If you can’t comprehend the long play, turn up “Longway To Go” from C Plus. This is the type of head-nodding, soul-infused record you rock seven days a week to make sure your days start proper.
