BEWARE’s Block: Instant Alerts
New music from James Gardin, K.A.A.N., Judge, Dreaded Cas, SupaKaine, KAMAU, BADBADNOTGOOD and more
With music easily made and readily shared by new artists every day, there are hundreds of high quality songs that fly under the radar. Every week, @BEWARE4 scours the web to weed out the dimes from the duds and share the wealth via BEWARE’s Block, a collection of eight buzzing tracks from artists currently breaking ground in their respective genres.
James Gardin — “Right Now” (Prod. By Terem)
Right now is the perfect time for “Right Now.” The latest single from Lansing, MI rapper/singer/producer James Gardin is directly in the house/hip-hop pocket that’s thriving in mainstream music, so the upbeat track should inevitably get spins. Beyond assumed public love, this hot rock will definitely get mad play at my spot. We like to keep the energy up, ya dig?
K.A.A.N. x Blevery Hills—”All We Got”
You already know K.A.A.N. gets put on a pedestal over here. “All We Got” only furthers the legend. Rocking alongside production and vocals from Bleverly Hills, the Maryland microphone killer dials down his usually amped energy to provide uplifting raps atop hammock vibes. This is positive music for smoke circles and I’m ready to fire up a whole pack.
Supakaine — “Bridges” (Prod. By Icepic & RJ Lamont)
People tell me burning “Bridges” isn’t always the best idea, quite often. What does that say about me? As I wonder in the midst of smoke, Detroit rising star Supakaine delivers a borderline spiritual single, encouraging listeners to learn from our mistakes, before we continue to make them. I’m listening, I promise.
KAMAU — “Burgundi”
Delicate and daunting could both be used to describe KAMAU’s “Burgundi.” That’s because this stand-out from the veteran underground MC’s recently released TheKAMAU-CASSETTE: ŭRTH GōLD album is extremely diverse, offering vibrant, charming vocals atop earthy production with well-blended elements of current trap. Apparently, I need to stop sleeping on KAMAU.
Dreaded Cas — “93' Expedition”
Dreaded season has arrived. After dropping off piping hot loosies here and there over the past year or so, longtime Block favorite Dreaded Cas is looking to release her upcoming P.Y.O. project and the first teaser is “93 Expedition.” Featuring throwback production from LA producer KY, Cas comes correct as usual, offering her always diverse flows and a hook that’s hard to shake.
King Tahoe — “Cue” (Prod. By Keno)
When most rap tracks are a bunch of long hooks, hearing one full of bars is quite refreshing. Spark “Cue” from King Tahoe. This funky, head-nodder from the Bay Area upstart is easy to fall for, offering a seamless stream of slick talk from Tahoe atop a lighthearted, welcoming production by Keno. If you don’t dig this, you need to lighten up a bit.
BADBADNOTGOOD — “Confessions Pt. 3”
The truly jazzy instrumentation BADBADNOTGOOD brings to Hip-Hop has earned them production placements with everyone from Kendrick Lamar and Snoop Dogg to Ghostface Killah and Freddie Gibbs. Now, the Canadian band’s clout is crystal clear in their new loosie, “Confessions Pt. 3.” Laced with marching bass, tight drums and extensive brass features, the mellow record is ideal for studying in the school library or sitting in ski-masks, plotting to rob the dope house. Whatever your path might be, BBNG has your soundtrack.
Judge — “TUNNEL”
My man Judge aka JUDHE is a fucking beast. There’s just no way around it. Not only did he score a frikkin’ placement on Thugger’s immaculate EBBTG, the STL-LA producer is somehow able to have the unwavering attention span to make an instrumental monster like “TUNNEL.” Seriously, the attention to detail is crystal clear in this genre-killing speaker-blower and anyone with an understanding of production should be floored. This is basically two beats in one and they’re both ready to take heads off. My decapitated body love this.
